Michael and the Magician

In a megacity of nearly 30 million souls, the rich control the police, the police control the general population, and the general population hate the Drownyard. The vigilante pacifist Magician works without a billionaire backing him--the only one in the city--while Michael Tarsem is a billionaire that refuses to get his hands dirty. When a serial killer from the Drownyard starts killing alt-right politicos, the police are quick to pin the murders on Magician and Tarsem, and it's up to them to find the real killer... and bring the corrupt police to justice.

As a cyber-gothic novel, this book dives into the questions of "Is there such a thing as a redeemable billionaire?" and "Are vigilantes healthy in a broken system?" and "Can pacifism bring about actual change in a society?" The impetus for this novel came from a Twitter post where someone highlighted how Batman would, logically, be fighting police corruption instead of turning over criminals, as they pose the biggest threat to a healthy society. Current politics further reinforce the themes.
